Qualcomm 9008 driver not installing: QHSUSB_BULK and other errors

Updated 2026-11-04 · Русская версия

EDL (9008) is the main path for service operations on Qualcomm phones. Without the driver, the phone shows up as QHSUSB_BULK or “Unknown device” and the tool cannot see it.

Install step by step

  1. Remove old Qualcomm drivers in Device Manager with “delete the driver”.
  2. Install a fresh Qualcomm USB Driver package as administrator.
  3. Reboot.
  4. Put the phone into EDL and connect.
  5. Check that “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COMx)” appears under Ports.

Driver or mode?

QHSUSB_BULK means EDL is on and the driver is the problem. An Android/ADB device means the phone is not in EDL. Nothing at all means cable, connector or the way you enter EDL.

Cable, port, power

Use a short data cable, a rear motherboard port, no USB hubs, and keep a laptop on mains power. If the port is unstable, try USB 2.0 instead of 3.x.

Before you rent

Make sure port 9008 appears reliably, then get access: UnlockTool rental or Android Multi Tool rental. Many Xiaomi models also need EDL authorization — pick a tool that provides it.

Install the driver properly

  1. Disconnect the phone and remove older Qualcomm drivers.
  2. Run the QDLoader installer as administrator; pick the “WWAN-DHCP is not used to get IPAddress” option if the installer asks.
  3. If Windows 11 blocks it, disable driver signature enforcement once and reinstall.
  4. Reboot, connect the phone in EDL and check Ports for “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COMx)”.

Manual install from Device Manager

Right-click the unknown device → Update driver → Browse my computer → Let me pick → Have Disk, then point to the folder with qcser.inf. This often works when the installer finishes but the device stays unknown.

Entering EDL

Methods vary: key combo, adb reboot edl on older firmware, fastboot commands on some models, or a test point. Modern Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo phones need server authorization to write in EDL — the driver alone is not enough, the tool must support auth for your model.

Cable and port matter

Use a data cable that you know works, plug directly into a rear USB 2.0 port, and avoid hubs. EDL is sensitive to unstable power and will reset mid-operation.

Bottom line

Driver installed, port named “QDLoader 9008”, tool started before connecting, and auth supported for your model — that is the full checklist.

Real-world example

A Redmi Note 12 (Snapdragon 685) shows as “QHSUSB_BULK”. The technician reinstalls the QDLoader driver with signature enforcement disabled; the port becomes “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM7)”. The tool then requests EDL auth for the model, the server approves it and the operation completes. Without the correct driver, the auth step was never reached.

FAQ

What does QHSUSB_BULK mean?

The phone is in EDL but the Qualcomm driver is not installed.

Why does port 9008 disappear after a minute?

Some phones leave EDL on timeout. Start the operation right after the port appears.

Do I need a VPN for the driver?

No. The tool itself may need one for authorization.

Why does the port show 900E instead of 9008?

The phone is in diagnostic mode, not EDL. Re-enter EDL with the correct method for your model.

Does adb reboot edl still work?

On older firmware yes; most current Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo builds block it.

Can I use a USB-C hub?

Avoid it; EDL needs a direct and stable connection.
