Huawei ID vs FRP: how to tell them apart and what you can do

Updated 2026-11-04 · Русская версия

Two locks are often confused on Huawei and Honor: Huawei ID and FRP. They look similar but are different mechanisms with different methods. Correct identification is the basis of an honest quote.

What FRP is

FRP (Factory Reset Protection) is an Android protection by Google. It triggers if the phone was reset without removing the Google account. After the reset the phone demands the previous Google account. It is an Android protection, the same across brands.

What Huawei ID is

Huawei ID is a Huawei account. If Huawei ID sign-in was enabled (especially Find Device), the phone is tied to Huawei servers. After a reset or reflash it demands that account. It is a brand cloud lock, close in meaning to Mi Account on Xiaomi and iCloud on Apple.

Why it matters

FRP and Huawei ID are removed differently. FRP has methods on supported models; Huawei ID needs the owner sign-in or the official procedure. Misidentify and you may promise the impossible or choose the wrong path. So identify the lock first.

Acting legitimately

Huawei specifics

On Kirin models FRP depends on the EMUI/HarmonyOS build and often needs a test point and the USB COM 1.0 driver. New HarmonyOS builds are more restricted.

Why confusion is risky

Treat Huawei ID as FRP and you may promise a quick result you cannot deliver. Treat FRP as Huawei ID and you may over-complicate a simple sign-in. Screen diagnosis is the basis of an honest quote and timeline.

What to ask the customer

Reducing re-lock risk

After unlocking, advise setting up their own accounts (Google and, if needed, Huawei ID), recording the passwords, and not enabling Find Device with someone else's data. This prevents repeat visits.

A screen cheat sheet

A Google screen with a Gmail field after a reset is FRP. A Huawei or Honor screen asking for the Huawei account is Huawei ID. Photograph the screen; it makes diagnosis and quoting easier.

Real-world example

A customer brought a Huawei with an account lock. The Huawei screen made it clear it was Huawei ID, not FRP. The technician explained the owner sign-in or official route was needed and did not waste time on FRP methods.

Glossary

Which tool fits

For FRP on Huawei/Honor with model support: UnlockTool rental, TFM Tool Pro rental. Check the model in the list.

Bottom line

Huawei ID and FRP are different locks. Identify from the screen what you face, then choose the path. Any removal only with proof of ownership.

An intake rule

Make a simple intake rule: a photo of the lock screen, a question about accounts, proof of ownership, and only then a quote. This removes most disputes on Huawei and Honor and stops wrong-path mistakes.

HarmonyOS specifics

On new HarmonyOS builds the set of available operations is noticeably smaller than on old EMUI. For fresh Huawei, judge the possibilities honestly and check model support before promising.

Technician FAQ

A quick screen cheat sheet

A Google screen with a Gmail field after a reset is FRP. A Huawei or Honor screen asking for the Huawei account is Huawei ID. The logo and the server behind the screen are the fastest tells, so a single photo at intake usually settles which lock you are dealing with.
