Huawei in UnlockTool: capabilities, preparation and limits
Huawei and Honor differ from other Android brands: Kirin chips, their own bootloader and Huawei ID. UnlockTool supports part of the Huawei lineup, and preparation matters more here than with Samsung or Xiaomi.
Chipsets and modes
| Chip | Where | Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Kirin | most Huawei, older Honor | download mode via test point (USB COM 1.0) |
| MediaTek | budget models | BROM / PreLoader |
| Qualcomm | some newer Honor | EDL 9008 |
Typical jobs
- FRP (Google account) removal on supported models;
- factory reset;
- device info reading;
- flashing and repair per the model’s function list.
Huawei ID is not FRP
FRP is Google’s protection after a reset. Huawei ID is Huawei’s own cloud lock and is removed only officially: the owner restores access or contacts Huawei support with proof of purchase.
Preparation
- Install Huawei USB COM 1.0 drivers for Kirin, plus MediaTek or Qualcomm drivers as needed.
- Prepare tools for the test point if the model needs it.
- Charge the phone and check the cable.
- Make sure the port appears in Device Manager before renting.
Test point safety
Use insulated tweezers, disconnect the battery if the model requires it, and hold the contact only until the port appears. Use verified test-point schematics — a wrong contact can damage the board.
Get access
When the port is confirmed, rent UnlockTool rental for 6–12 hours — disassembly takes time.
What to expect on Huawei
Huawei support depends heavily on the chipset. Older Kirin models allow more operations in testpoint mode; newer Kirin and HarmonyOS builds are much more restricted. Huawei ID removal is not something a legitimate tool offers for locked devices — services focus on FRP, flashing and repair.
Typical operations
| Operation | Notes |
|---|---|
| Read info | confirms mode and connection |
| FRP reset | model- and patch-dependent |
| Flash / repair firmware | needs the correct board firmware |
| Factory reset | wipes user data |
Preparation
- Note the exact model (e.g. MAR-LX1M), chipset and EMUI/HarmonyOS build.
- Install Huawei USB COM 1.0 drivers for testpoint mode.
- Check the UnlockTool list for that model and operation.
- Prepare a test point diagram if the model needs it.
Testpoint mode
Many Kirin operations need the board in USB COM 1.0 mode. That means opening the back cover and shorting the test point to ground while connecting. Do it carefully, with the battery disconnected if the guide says so.
When to use another tool
If UnlockTool does not list the model, TFM Tool Pro has broad Huawei coverage. Compare the operation lists before renting.
Bottom line
Identify chipset and build, prepare drivers and test point, check support — then rent access for the hours you need.
Real-world example
A Huawei P30 Lite (MAR-LX1M, Kirin 710) arrives with FRP after a reset. The technician confirms the build number, installs Huawei USB COM 1.0 drivers, opens the back, finds the test point from a verified diagram and connects while shorting it. The port appears, Read Info succeeds and the supported FRP operation completes. Data is wiped, which the owner agreed to beforehand.
Glossary
- Kirin — Huawei’s HiSilicon chipset family.
- USB COM 1.0 — Huawei testpoint service port.
- Board firmware — low-level files needed to repair a Kirin device.
- HarmonyOS — Huawei OS on newer devices, more restricted for service tools.
FAQ for technicians
- Does every Huawei need a test point? — no, some operations work over USB in normal or upgrade mode.
- Can UnlockTool remove Huawei ID? — no legitimate service offers that on locked phones.
- What about Honor? — older Honor models share Kirin methods; newer Honor uses Qualcomm and MediaTek.
Ownership first
Ask for proof of purchase or the original box before any FRP job. It protects you and the customer.
Before you pay
- model, chipset and build noted;
- USB COM 1.0 driver installed;
- test point diagram ready if needed;
- operation listed for the model;
- owner agreed to data wipe.
Huawei jobs fail most often on the wrong build or a missing driver — both are free to check before renting.
Bottom line
Kirin is workable with preparation; HarmonyOS is far more limited. Check first, then rent.
Honor and Huawei sub-brands
Honor phones released before the 2020 split often share Kirin methods with Huawei, so the same driver and test point approach applies. Newer Honor models moved to Snapdragon and MediaTek and are treated like any other Qualcomm or MediaTek phone. Check the chipset, not the logo.
FAQ
Does UnlockTool support Huawei on Kirin?
Some Kirin models are supported; check the exact model and function on unlocktool.net/models.
Is a test point needed?
For many Kirin operations, yes.
Can Huawei ID be removed?
Only officially, by the owner via Huawei support. FRP and Huawei ID are different locks.
Which Huawei models are easiest?
Older Kirin 6xx/7xx/9xx devices on EMUI 9–10 have the widest support.
Do I need to remove the battery?
Some test point guides recommend disconnecting it; follow the diagram for your board.
Will FRP reset keep data?
No, it wipes user data.
Is HarmonyOS supported?
Only a limited set of operations on some builds; check the list first.
